'Getting the Togetherness Habit' at Lucerne House

'Getting the Togetherness Habit' - A fully inclusive workshop for people who live and work at Lucerne House in Bexhill, East Sussex was held on Thursday 8th April. This workshop is part of our deep culture change programme.

The day was a beautiful sunny one and we used the community venue, Centrestage, which had a stunning garden in which we spent the afternoon thinking together about what are the habits we need to grow to cultivate true togetherness.

The people who live at Lucerne House were fantastic at sharing their experiences - they had time and space to let us know what they imagine to be great support. We practised profound listening, creating a 'brilliant thinking environment' and the skill of appreciation. We explored the foundations and habits that are needed to shift from 'service to community thinking'. We role played some common unhelpful ways of being which are often a feature of the care provider culture. One of the people who lives at Lucerne House recognised the beahaviour in the role plays and summed them up beautifully:-

"Dont give a toss" and "Rushy, rushy, rushy"

We explored what happens when people move from being a carer to being an ally, this gave us a foundation for our 'togetherness' thinking'.

During the day we discovered peoples' passions, which we believe are core to developing the right relationships in our lives. We also asked everyone involved to make a pledge about the action they would take in the days and weeks ahead to grow the 'Togetherness Habit.'

The next step at Lucerne House will be to complete a PATH together to help everyone connected with the lives of the people who live at Lucerne House to envisage and plan a future that can fulfill everyone's hopes and dreams.
